The Immunizations & Injections (I&I) module allows an expanded list of vaccinations and injections the pharmacy can offer, with the same workflow and tools. The I&I module can help:
Ensure the injection supply is available before the patient is in the pharmacy
Know when to fill injection prescriptions so patients have it when they need it
Prevent patients from forgetting about their injection appointments
Run targeted vaccination campaigns to drive traffic into the pharmacy
Use Patient Interest Flagging to ask patients if they are interested in learning more about shingles or HPV vaccinations while they are booking a COVID or flu shot

How-To: Immunization & Injection Workflow
Pharmacy receives Rx
Patients bring in a prescription to the pharmacy in many situations. Book their initial and follow-up dose appointments on the spot with MedMe from the pharmacist side. Alternatively, direct patients to your MedMe link to book an appointment and complete the intake online.
Patients who want to learn more about vaccines
A patient expresses interest in vaccination by booking an appointment through your pharmacy's MedMe link.
Turn ON public intake for the Immunizations & Injections Module.
Complete a consultation with the patient to assess if they are a good candidate for the injection.
If they are a good candidate:
and the pharmacist has prescribing authority: write the prescription and offer the patient the injection now or later. Offer to book an appointment or send a booking link
and the pharmacist does not have prescribing authority: write a recommendation or draft a prescription to fax to the patient's primary care provider. When the return fax is received, send the patient a booking link!
Settings for the Immunizations and Injections Module
Set up the Calendar and availability. Choose whether or not to use the same availability as the assigned calendar or restrict the availability to certain times/days by checking off the box overlap calendar availability with custom availability.
Set a Book in Advance restriction if required. Adjust the booking window to the minimum period of time between when a patient is booking and when the appointment can be scheduled.
Note - By default, this has been set to 48 hours to allow time for pharmacy staff to communicate with patients about prescription requirements or insurance questions, and to order inventory if needed.
Customize appointment details (e.g. appointment description, confirmation/reminder/thank you messages). Provide pharmacy-specific messaging to patients on the patient scheduling page, and for each automated notification patients will receive leading up to, and after their appointment.
Turn public intake ON to allow for patient self-scheduling. Allow patients to book appointments themselves on the patient scheduling page by enabling public intake under settings.
Changing offered Immunizations and Injections
STEP 1: Open the Immunization/Injection Appointment Settings. Click on Settings then Appointment Types and Immunization/Injection
STEP 2: Open the injection list. Under the general tab, scroll to the bottom of the page then click Edit Injection List
STEP 3: Select offered injections. Check off the boxes for injections the pharmacy offers. Ensure to press the Update Injection List button to save changes.
STEP 4: Confirm offered injections are correct. The offered injections should be listed under the Available Injections header
Please Note: If an Immunization & injection appointment is booked from the pharmacist side, there are no restrictions to the vaccine/injection list. The injection list only restricts the patient-facing side.
Booking An Appointment
Booking an Appointment as a Pharmacist
The pharmacy has three options to schedule a patient for an injection directly in the system. Schedule them into the calendar, send the patient a booking link or begin the consultation immediately.
Booking an Appointment as a Patient
Select the date and time of the appointment
Patients click into the appointment, confirm what immunization they wish to receive and check whether they already have a prescription. Then they select their preferred date and time.
Complete the patient intake form
Patients provide their contact information and complete an injection pre-screening. These details are recorded on both the documentation and the patient's profile.
Editing and Saving Documentation
Edit document information and save changes as needed. Once patients have gone through the intake and scheduled an appointment, their intake answers will be recorded in their patient profile, under the Immunization/Injection consultation.
To edit and document any changes, click the Edit button. Be sure to press the green Update Information to save changes.
Print or view documentation. To print or view a copy of the full immunization record click the View/Print PDF button. The file will be downloaded to the computer and then able to be printed for the pharmacy records and the patients.
